It is our joy and pleasure to announce the hiring of our newest member to the Flower Mound UMC Staff team. After review from our Staff Parish Relations Committee as well as panel interview with members of our Children’s Ministry Committee, Rev. Davidson Sutherland has accepted the position as our Director of Children’s Ministry. Rev. Sutherland is a graduate of Princeton Theological Seminary and ordained in the Baptist church. His experience in children’s ministry began as a teenager and has ranged from running sports camp ministries to serving as a summer counselor, creating Vacation Bible school, developing after school programs, starting a Roof Top Garden for children, and leading children’s workshops for the Greater New Jersey conference. In addition, Davidson has served a variety of churches during his seminary experience with associate pastor responsibilities, including New Dover United Methodist Church in New Jersey, McLean Baptist Church in Virginia, Metro Baptist Church in New York, as well Northminster Presbyterian Church in Seattle, Washington. Most recently he was the Youth and Campus Program Coordinator for the Next Generations Ministry of the Greater New Jersey Conference, which included crafting networks of campus ministries, running college internship programs and organizing clergy conferences. He has served in a variety of leadership capacities during his undergraduate education at Hardin Simmons University as well as Princeton Theological Seminary in areas of student government, ministry leadership teams, advisory councils and honor societies.
Davidson is a native of Arlington, Texas and has returned to Texas as his wife Ashley accepted the position as our Associate Pastor for Youth. They are excited to work together to create a seamless ministry at Flower Mound UMC from children into youth ministries offering a strong Biblical and theological foundation for our youngest disciples. Davidson will be present in worship regularly and already has some wonderful ideas to engage children and families during this time of COVID and beyond. This staff position is 30 hours per week and we know his ministry will be a blessing in the life of this congregation.
